AFAA Liberian
Special Needs Children

Emmanuel

Emmanuel is believed to be about 1 to 2 years of age.  Emmanuel was abandoned in a Liberian hospital.  He was examined by an American trained, Asian pediatrician, who works at a Liberian hospital and who strongly believes Emmanuel had a stroke that has affected the right side of his body which is much weaker than his left.  His eyes are bright and alert and he does not seem have to have serious cognitive problems.  Emmanuel is HIV negative.

The AFAA adoption fees for Emmanuel are $1,000/USD.  One adopting family member must spend about 10 days in Liberia after his adoption is completed.
A 15 member mission team was very recently in Liberia, refurbishing the AFAA Orphanage and we are waiting for the many photos they have taken.
AFAA will need a complete family dossier for the family who adopts Emmanuel.
Thank you for considering the adoption of Emmanuel - he needs a family.
Peace, good food & clean water,
Cheryl

 Ruth

Ruth is believed to be about 3 years old.  She was abandoned by her birth mother at a Liberian hospital.  Ruth is believed to have cerebral palsy.  Ruth does not talk - she shouts to get someone's attention.  She has started pulling herself up to a standing position and has started walking.  She also scoots on her butt around a room.  She does not feed herself - she is fed by the foster mothers who are working on trying to teach her to feed herself.  Ruth is HIV negative.

Her AFAA adoption fees are $1,000/USD.  One adopting family member must spend about 10 days in Liberia after the adoption is completed.  Families must complete a full dossier for Emmanuel's adoption.
A 15 member mission team was recently in Liberia, to refurbish the AFAA orphanage and we are waiting on their many recent photos.
Peace, good food & clean water,
Cheryl

 Nanu

Nanu is believed to be about 6 years old.  Nanu was taken to a Liberian hospital in 2010, by her birth mother and left there for about a year.  No one knows were the birth mother is.  The Government of Liberia was contacted by the hospital and was told they have to find a place for Nanu to live.  She was then moved to the AFAA Orphanage in 4/11. Social workers found Nanu's birth father and he said he wants Nanu but does not want to raise her.  He is reported to be an alcoholic who sells at a local market - he told Liberian social workers if he had to take Nanu he would take her to the market with him and let her sit there all day every day, while he sells trinkets.  The Government of Liberia convinced the birth father to let Nanu be adopted.  She reportedly has a mild form of cerebral palsy.  She walks around the AFAA orphanage.  She does not talk and has had no schooling.  Nanu is thought to be smart and seems to understand what is said to her. She likes to be tickled and smiles often.   Nanu is HIV negative

Lawrena

Lawrena is believed to be about 5 years old.  She has major cerebral palsy.  Lawrena cannot sit alone but she likes to sit in a stroller and watch the other children play.  She smiles a lot and can move her arms around.  She does not talk - she does say "mmmm".  Lawerena tries to sit when propped up.  She also tries to raise her head.  Lawerena is spoon fed.  She is HIV and TB negative.
The AFAA agency fees for Lawerena are $1,000/USD.  One adopting parent must travel to Liberia for about 10 days.  A 15 member mission team was recently in Liberia and we are waiting for the many photos they took.
We will need a complete dossier for a family to adopt Lawerena.

John is believe to be about 2 to 3 years of age. He was the first child born to his 18 year old birth mother.
She told the Government of Liberia social worker that she cannot take care of John and will sign relinquishment papers when we find a family for John. John was placed in the AFAA Orphanage in Liberia, in 2011.
John was born with cerebral palsy and he is believed to also have asthma. John had convulsions until put on medication and he has not had a convulsion since being medicated. John cannot sit alone. Foster mothers believe he can see but he does not track with his eyes - it is not known if he can hear. He plays a little with his hands, laughs when someone plays with him and he kicks his feet. His muscles are loose, not stiff. John has started pushing himself backwards in a walker. John can turn over by himself in his crib. He does not take a bottle - he is spoon fed Cream of Wheat and smashed up foods. Like all Liberian children - John has had Malaria. John is HIV negative
The agency fees for John are $1,000/USD. One adopting parent must travel to Liberia after the adoption is completed and stay about 10 days.
A mission team of 15 people were very recently in Liberia to refurbish the AFAA Orphanage - they took many photos and we are waiting to receive them.
A complete dossier must be completed for the adoption of John.

  1. Can you send me any pictures you have of John or Lawrena? Our family is fundraising to try and adopt both of them. The pictures for some reason do not show on my computer. May I have permission to post them on FB or the web or our fundraising site at http://www.gofundme.com/3kcufg ? Jennifer
